Monsoon & Wax

Current location: Las Vegas, NV
Total miles traveled: 5,379 miles

Good morning from sin city. Two blogs in one, watch out!

Saturday and Sunday, we spent our last days in California. We got to spend more time with my great friend Eric on Saturday while we visited Madame Toussand's wax museum. It was awesome and we had a wonderful time. We got pictures with Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood, Justin Beiber, Tom Hanks, Marilyn Monroe, Conan, and Beyonce to name a few. We are planning to trick folks into thinking they are real people!

Eric also introduced us to his friends and we had dinner at a tasty Mexican restaurant right on Hollywood Boulevard. It was delicious!

We also visited Marilyn Monroe's grave again. It was much easier to find this time. I know its crazy for someone to be obsessed with both Marilyn Monroe and Dr. Seuss, but hey, it is what it is! :)

Yesterday, we finally left California. Well... Kind of. It took all stinking day to even reach the state lane. Why? Well my friend, it is a very long story that you may or may nor believe. We hit a horrific storm so we had to keep stopping on the side of the road to let the rain pass. At first, we stopped at a store and it was just sprinkling. I told Ricky that we needed to just suck it up and take off because the only way to get to the other side of the storm was to drive through it. Well, that was one big major fail. Five minutes down the street, the bottom fell out. We were driving about 20 miles an hour until we got to an underpass where we could stop. It was literally raining so hard that I was soaked in mere seconds. I got off the bike and the wind was blowing so hard that I physically couldn't breathe. I thought I was having a panic attack but then Ricky was gasping for breath too. When the wind stopped, Ricky put me over the wall to stand behind a column under the bridge. There was already a motorcycle man hanging out, but I was surprised to see a pair of pants fly beside me. What?? Pants! Yes. Motorcycle man tossed his pants off. Weird! We walked over (after allowing him ample time to get himself together) and he said that he has been caught in a hailstorm. A few minutes later, he packed his underwear (but left his wet pants!) and headed out. We waited a few more minutes for the storm to pass, and we also headed out.

No more than 30 minutes later (and 4 or 5 stops to let rain pass), we passed motorcycle man going BACK towards California. Uh oh. He told us not to go so we knew it must have been pretty wacky for him to have turned around and went back. We pulled over at a tire store (abandoned of course, like the rest of the ghost towns on our way) and waited for more than 30 minutes to see if we could let the storm pass. During that time, we saw a truck doing figure 8s in the puddles, a family splashing around in mini pools, and a girl squatting down and using the bathroom in the dirt.

Finally, finally, finally, we left the area, and we were going to Vegas! YES, son! We hit a few sprinkles of rain along the way, and some terrible lightening, it was much better than the monsoon we were faced with before. About 1/2 way there, we saw a familiar face. Yes, that's right. Our friend with no pants had changed his mind and was going back to Vegas!

We made it last night and we got smart this time. Instead of gambling away a large amount of money, we took a small amount of money, gambled/lost it and felt no guilt for it. It was great. By the way, rooms in Vegas are super cheap. We stayed in a nice hotel for only $35. Great deal! Today, we are going to try to make it to Colorado if the weather will cooperate.

Sorry for the major delays in blogging. We cannot seem to find a hotel with reliable internet so I've been having to write them from my phone. It takes over an hour to type though so its difficult to find the time. Tonight, we hope to find a hotel that has come out of 1999.
